November 2021 Update: San Francisco Bay Area Ancient Liturgies

November 4, 2021

The Benedict XVI Institute for Sacred Music and Divine Liturgy, which was founded by Archbishop Cordileone and is directed by Maggie Gallagher, sends out emails about ancient liturgies in the Bay Area. The emails include locations, times, and other information about traditional Latin Masses, Dominican rite and Eastern rite liturgies, and notably reverent ordinary form Masses—for example, those OF Masses that are celebrated with traditional sacred music and at least partly in Latin. The last update for the month of November was somehow corrupted and truncated, so it was sent out without the complete listings. This post has all of the intended contents.

To see the most recent listings for all known ancient liturgies in the area, scroll down to “Where to Find Ancient Beauties Ever New.”

Please forward a link to this page to anyone who might be interested. Apologies for the inconvenience, and for notices about the events at the beginning of the month that were not seen before they happened.

Please send updates, additions, or corrections to: editorAncientLiturgies@bxvi.org. To receive the ancient liturgies emails, register at: http://latinmasssf.com/.

Special November Masses Up to the Novena of All Souls

This section has tables of special TLMs that have come to our attention for the beginning of the month of November, which starts with All Saints and All Souls Days. Bay Area Requiem Masses in honor of all the suffering souls in purgatory continue through November 5, within the novena of All Souls. Archbishop Cordileone is offering a special Mass to pray for the homeless who have died in the past year on November 6. And the entire month is dedicated to praying for the souls of the faithful dead with special indulgences that may be obtained to help free souls from purgatory. (For more about the November indulgences, see this Benedict XVI Facebook post.)

Listings changed since the previous monthly update are identified with a +.

“What a great list! I’m so happy to see that the TLM is being provided for God’s people. It’s very heartening to see that I am not alone.”—Maria Ebert

Information has been checked as current as of October 30. Please let us know about updates, additions, or corrections: editorAncientLiturgies@bxvi.org.

Because times and dates may change for many reasons, check before you go. Some locations are managed by a coordinator who is not connected to the parish, so use the information provided to contact that person directly.

Unless noted, the listed liturgies are traditional Latin Low Masses. A Missa Cantata is indicated with (Sung). Latin Ordinary Form Masses, Dominican Masses, and Eastern rite liturgies are also indicated when appropriate.
